Cepea, 22/01/2025 – Rice milling and shipments in Rio Grande do Sul fell sharply in December/24, posting the lowest volume for the period since 2020, Cepea surveys show. Besides the typically low year-end liquidity, the Center notes that the decline was linked to falling paddy rice trading prices. There was also pressure from wholesalers and retailers on milling plants, which, as a result, reduced their demand for raw material. According to Irga data, in December/24, paddy rice milling and shipments totaled 502,12 thousand tonnes, the lowest quantity since March/24. For the year, 7,28 million tonnes were milled, the smallest volume since 2021. Source: Cepea (www.cepea.esalq.usp.br)
