Cepea, 10/12/2024 – Brazilian wheat imports have been growing this year, with the volume purchased over 12 months the largest in four years. In November, even as the Brazilian harvest neared completion and import parity increased, foreign purchases remained strong. Greater wheat availability in Argentina at competitive prices has been favoring purchases, Cepea researchers explain. A total of 427,53 thousand tonnes of wheat were imported in November/24, 33% more than in November/23. Of the total, 79,5% originated from Argentina, the largest volume imported from that country in the past six months – Secex data. Over the 12-month accumulated period, Brazil imported 6,52 million tonnes, the largest quantity since the same period ended in November/20 (6,53 million tonnes), Secex data analyzed by Cepea also show. Source: Cepea (www.cepea.esalq.usp.br)
