Cepea, 10/02/2025 – Corn prices continue to rise in most of the regions tracked by Cepea. Last week, the ESALQ/BM&FBovespa index (Campinas – SP base) closed above R$ 76 per 60 kg bag again, a level not seen since April 2023. According to the Center, concerns related to delays in the summer-crop harvest and second-crop planting, especially in Brazil's Center-West, have kept some sellers away from spot-market deals, waiting for further gains. In addition, as Cepea researchers explain, market participants indicate that priority has been given to harvesting and delivering soybean lots, which has pushed corn sales to the back burner and made freight more expensive. On the demand side, buyers show interest in acquiring new lots but face difficulties given the higher prices asked by sellers, Cepea also notes. Source: Cepea (www.cepea.esalq.usp.br)
