Cepea, 08/04/2025 – Wheat prices continue to rise, driven, according to Cepea researchers, by low domestic supply of the cereal during this off-season period.
The reduced domestic availability, and the resulting higher price in Brazil, has also been increasing wheat imports.
Secex data analyzed by Cepea show that, in March/25, 651,79 thousand tonnes of the cereal were purchased, a volume 12% above February/25 and 27,6% higher than March/24. The average import price was US$ 234,07/tonne in March, which, in Brazilian currency, would be R$ 1.344,25/t, that is, more competitive than the price charged in the domestic market.
In the partial figures for 2025 (January to March), 1,951 million tonnes were imported, 18% more than in the first quarter of 2024, according to Secex data.
As for shipments, 280,06 thousand tonnes were shipped in March/25, the smallest quantity this year. The total shipped in the first three months was 1,46 million tonnes, 28% below the same period last year.
